Qoyllority
Cusco, Mahuayani, Qoylloritti Sanctuary

OVERVIEW

The pilgrimage to the shrine of Qoyllority is held every year and is celebrated in the district of Ocongate (Quispicanchis), Cusco. The Lord of Qoyllority, is the divinity of the residents of the area to which lend devotion. Qoyllority means "Lord of the Shining Snow 'is a Christ, whose image is plotted on a rock.

This is an old religious custom celebrated days before the celebration of Corpus Christi, where every small village or clan send a delegation with colorful dancers and "pabluchas' to the Chapel of Qoyllur ritty. The ritual is associated with the fertility of the land and the worship of Apus (hills, tutelary gods), ritual is part of one of the parties America's largest indigenous nations. The main ceremony is held at the foot of Mount Ausangate, the ritual consists of a pilgrimage to the shrine of Sinakara in the village of Mawayany, at 4600meters above sea level.

ITINERARY

Day 01 CUSCO - MAHUAYANI

We leave Cusco by private bus Cusco - Puerto Maldonado taking the motorway in the direction of Tinki(3800 m) and Mahuayani, where we arrive at 3 pm approximately. On the way we stop in Urcos, where we visit the beautiful lake of the same name; pass by the agricultural and livestock Cattca community, where we see spectacular views of the region. Following Ocongate, capital of the district of the same name, Tinqui starting point for most tours in the area of Ausangate, and Mahuayani. In the afternoon, we will have the opportunity to visit the local market.

Day 02 MAHUAYANI - QOYLLORITTI SANCTUARY

We woke up at 07. 30 am and after breakfast we start our trek to the Sanctuary Qoylloritti, situated in a stunning location, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Walk uphill along the route we will find 14 crosses that are venerated along the way, the latter is in the Sanctuary. Upon arrival, you will be staying in the camp and enjoy some free time in the afternoon. Viewing activities in the Sanctuary is impressive, and the number of pilgrims attending this event year after year. In the afternoon, we attend Mass at the Shrine, there are two ceremonies, at 06. 00 hours or 08. 00 pm Dinner and camp at the Sanctuary.

Day 03 SANCTUARY QOYLLORITTY

Day at the Shrine. Witness the "Alacitas" morning markets. This is a very curious activity in which one buys miniature goods such as trucks, houses, cattle, and other university degrees, with the money that is only valid during the festival of Qoyllur Ritti. Legend says that whatever is achieved in this game will be a reality thanks to the power of the Lord of Qoylloritty. The Mass of the soul in the atrium of the sanctuary (10. 00hours) is the next event followed by "pablitos» Mass at 12. 00 hours.

Day 04 QOYLLORITTY SANCTUARY - MAHUAYANI - CUSCO

After an early wake up at 07. 00 hours, with suitcases ready we will prepare for the pilgrimage. We hope to attend the Mass of blessing at 10.00 hours and at noon, lunch and descent to the village of Mahuayani. In the afternoon, aboard our private transportation back to Cusco, where we hope to arrive around 18:00 hrs.
